J. Renee Toth lives in Northeast Ohio, USA and is currently a Stay-At-Home-Mom to two young children. Her youngest, Johnny, happens to have Down syndrome. Johnny struggled with both his health and feedings in his first eight months of life at which time he learned to fully breastfeed. Renee is a co-leader for a local branch of birthNETWORK, a non-profit, consumer-advocacy group promoting awareness of the benefits and availability of healthy, normal pregnancy and childbirth through information and support. Renee speaks to various mothering groups such as being a guest speaker for La Leche League about being an advocate for your child. She shares how she campaigns for Johnny within the medical community for his medical care, his life-saving surgeries, and hospital stays while still upholding their family beliefs. Renee is an active member, librarian, and new parent contact for her area Down syndrome support group. She is also a Parent Mentor Family contact supporting new families with similar medical diagnoses at the local Children's Hospital where all of her son’s medical treatments have occurred. About her bookThe contributors to Renee’s manuscript share the goal of educating and encouraging future mothers and professionals who work closely with babies who have Down syndrome with the goal of keeping the options open for full breastfeeding for the babies. The unique stories in the mother's own words include their triumphs and pitfalls on the path of learning to breastfeed babies who have Down syndrome. The mothers each took very different paths to reaching the final goal of providing their breastmilk for their child. |
